Rainforest conservation

Rainforest stand

Let us now take a closer look at the rainforest satnd ecosystem
Plant and animals are make up the living components of rainforest ecosystem
A biomass of 650 tons per hectare was measured for a lowland forest in malazi

Trees are obviously the dominant group of plants in the rainforest. An enumeration of 50 ha of a lowland dipterocarp forest (Pasoh Forest Reserve malazi… produced more than 800 species of trees
Upper canopy_ topmost layer _but below the scattered giants_40-50 m high…30-40 trees per hectare

Middle canopy 30 meter
_below the upper canopy_about 30 meter high_80-160 trees per hectare

Lower canopy_Under storey

Many trees have buttress roots which may begin to flare out from the trunk as high as several meter aboves ground. The buttresses give the trees a firmer base stand on, since the roots system is not deeply anchored in the soil. Roots tend to hug the ground, spreading out far but plant nutrients are contained in the thin top soil.
Plant have successfully completed for a place in “their canopy by a variety of strategies. The spatial arrangement of the the vegetation in layers has major advantages for the system as a whole. It protectes the forest floor soil from the onslaught of rain storms and the desiccating heat of sun, thus preventing soil erosion and maintaining the ability of the soil to absorb water. The vegetation layering microclimate where diurnal ( day/ night…) temperature fluctuations are minimal and humidity is constantly high.
